FINISHED!!!!

It's been awhile since I've posted, but I just finished the quilt today! I've been working so hard on it. I'm so happy w/ how it turned out. It's not going to win any fabulous quilting prizes, but it's so special it doesn't matter. I'm so glad it's finished & I can't wait to give it to my mom on Christmas!

Progress: Backing picked & quilt sandwiched!

Yes, I'm alive. LOL! I got an old sheet that is complementary to the colors in the quilt.

Photobucket

Here's what it looked like sandwiched. I'm a bit disappointed it isn't bigger. It's huge to me, but compared to an official twin-sized batting, it looked smaller.

Progress: Quilt top finished!!!!

I am so excited to post that I finished the quilt top today! Now I have to find a sheet to use as the backing & decide on binding.

Photobucket

You don't need it anymore, right Mommy?

Photobucket

Does it look good on me?

Photobucket
I think it works!

Photobucket

Where's Jared?

Photobucket

It's also good for going night-night.

Progress: Quilt top almost together!

Well, I have 3 pieces of quilt top. LOL! I have the top 3 rows sewn together & also the bottom 3. I had planned to just start at the top & keep attaching, but by the time I got to row 4, the fabric was heavy & was pulling. I'm just going to have to do more pinning to get the rest together.

Progress: 1 Row Sewn!

It's not much, but I'm making progress. My goal today is to get all rows sewn. Can I do it? We'll see!!!

Progress: Squares finished! Figured out layout!

I finished all the squares - 35 total! Here's the layout:

Photobucket

Justin had to help me. He's usually pretty good with the color & design stuff, so I like to run things by him & get his opinion. Another eye is always good! I didn't want too many of the same fabrics together. It was like a giant jigsaw puzzle! :)

Here are the squares, labeled & ready for sewing!

Progress: Figured out small square borders.

The smaller squares have 2 borders, whereas the larger squares only had one. I had a hard time figuring out what fabric to use for the borders, so I finally decided to use the same border as the larger squares' border for the small squares' first border. Make sense? Stay tuned for the second border, which was way harder to figure out.

Big Announcement!

My husband & I just found out we are expecting Baby J#2 next May! Jared's going to be a big brother! Here's how we told the families. The shirt was an idea from etsy. I just made my own!

I took a break from my quilt for this project!

My friend Elicia had a baby girl named Lily on 8/19. She was 8 lbs & 14 oz of little bliss! Elicia's the one I made the pink & gray quilt for that I posted below. I knew she loved handmade things & I wanted something to take to the hospital when I visited, so I made these for her! She loved them all, especially the bag. She wants me to show her how to make them. :)

Here's sort of a closeup of the bag. The fabrics are all scraps from the quilt I made her previously.

You wear quilt squares, right?

I've mentioned that Jared loves playing with my fabric. Well, he thought he'd wear a square on his head & play peekaboo. Way more fun than the zillions of toys he has. Cute!

Progress: I finished all the big squares!

Jared is now carrying a few of them around the house, but they're done. I hope some don't go missing. LOL! There are 17 big squares. Now I have to figure out what fabrics I want for double borders on the little squares.

Progress: Selected fabrics for the borders around the big squares!

I had to cut up 3 more dresses, because I didn't like smoe of the ones I had already cut. They just didn't work. So here they are. I'll start cutting the strips tomorrow.

Progress: All squares cut!

Look at this tropical awesomeness!

Photobucket

Now I have to figure out what to make the borders on each square out of. I have both small prints (plaids, flowers, etc) or I have more of the big prints left.

Is this the "Jen Quilts" blog or the.....

"Jen shows off her cute baby boy playing in the quilt stuff" blog? LOL! Whatever! I can't help it! Here are a couple of new ones.

On the pool table where I do my cutting (yes he's on the pool table; yes I'm watching him):

Playing in the scraps (at some point today he had some wrapped around his neck & dangling off like he was a mummy):

Been busy this week, but not with quilting!

I am working VBS at church this week, so I haven't had much time to quilt. More posts next week!

I'm changing my mind on the pattern!

My hubby gave me his opinion that he thought some of the large prints would be difficult to use in my current pattern. I, being as independent as I usually am, said it was fine & went on cutting. As I've been cutting though, I've realized he's right (why does have have to be right all the time?). Some of these prints are huge & would look funny in the pattern. See?

Photobucket

So....I'm leaning towards going back to the other pattern I had chosen before the rail fence. It has larger blocks, so I could showcase some of the big floral prints and make the outline from the smaller ones. I showed this pattern to my mom before & she liked it.

I may make the other pattern out of my grandma's clothes for me. The smaller prints are more my style anyway.

Jared Found Great Mamaw's Fabric!

Jared, who is almost 15 months old, is quite the explorer. He's discovered lots of things since he's been walking. Oh look, some bright, pretty fabric!

What do you think? Jedi or superhero?

Or maybe he can be a shepherd in a play at church!
